Postage Fees in Tunisia – Current Prices (with Personal Experience Report)

In this article, you will find a clear compilation of the current postage fees in Tunisia (as of 2025) – including domestic and international rates. The list is enhanced with a personal experience report from everyday life with the Tunisian postal service.
When I moved to Tunisia, one of my first questions was: “How much does it actually cost to send a letter here?”
Simple question. You might think the answer would be on the official La Poste Tunisienne website.
But no. That website has been completely dead since I arrived. And when I asked at my local post office, the man just smiled and said:
“Non, j’ai pas de liste, mais c’est pas cher. Pas cher!”
The best customer service ever.
So, I set out on a little research adventure.
The Post Office Adventure
The small post office in Tantana only handles basic things – stamps, withdrawals, bill payments.
But at least the kind manager there told me where the real post office is – the one that actually processes letters and parcels for the region: Chatt Meriem.
Today I finally went there and – jackpot! – they had the full rate list posted on the wall.
So I took a photo, went home, and made a readable version for all of us.

Registered mail (RR) and return receipt (AR) explained
- RR (Registered): You receive a receipt, can track the shipment, and delivery is documented.
- AR (Return Receipt): You additionally receive a written confirmation that the recipient accepted the shipment.
Most people only opt for RR – AR is mostly used for legal matters where you really need proof of receipt.
Mail delivery in Tunisia – my experience
What really surprised me: There actually is home delivery – but not as I had imagined.
When I registered at the post office, I provided my name and phone number.
So whenever something arrives, I will apparently receive a call – or maybe five to seven calls – until the poor mail carrier finally finds my house (of course, with my detailed directions over the phone).
So yes, they actually do deliver.
But first comes the ritual of several phone calls, just to make sure we are all talking about the same street, the same house, and the same planet.
